Urban Form

The Green Boulevard Plan builds on the following goals determined by the Allegheny Riverfront Vision Plan:

  • Re-orient the city, existing and new, towards the river; create a new “front” along the river
  • Utilize existing building stock: identify the opportunities for authentic and distinctive “places”
  • Enhance and protect the features of the physical environment that defines such places
  • Reveal and seek inspiration from the city’s history
  • Intensify urbanism, develop appropriate uses and quality
  • Create a mix of uses: build synergy
  • Introduce new and diverse types of housing
  • Recognize and celebrate distinctive features such as bridges that contribute to Pittsburgh’s identity; enhance views and vistas
  • Create beautiful, usable public places along the riverfront edge
